## Montessori Curriculum

The Montessori Academy of Early Enrichment’s mission is to provide a quality learning experience that is suited to the needs of the child. We believe that all children are unique individuals with different needs, interests, and abilities.

There are five specific work areas for pre-kindergarten are:

• Practical Life
• Sensorial
• Mathematics
• Languages
• Geography

## Practical Life

Practical Life includes those activities performed in everyday life to maintain the surrounding environment and the person. The purpose of Practical Life exercises is to help the child to become independent, self sufficient, to achieve order, and to learn to follow action sequences designed to provoke concentration. Practical Life exercises cover four (4) activities:

• Care of the environment
• Development of social relations
• Care of self
• Coordination of physical movement

## Sensorial

The purpose of Sensorial exercises is to help the child develop the five (5) senses. This is achieved by exposing the child to Sensorial material during the sensitive periods through which the child goes. The Sensorial exercises enable the child to discriminate order, classify, and describe sensory impressions with relation to length, width, temperature, mass, color, pitch, and smell.

## Mathematics

Maria Montessori viewed mathematics as a natural process that begins at the concrete level and progresses to the abstract. Montessori mathematics materials include the Spindle Box, Red and Blue Rods, Sand paper number, Golden Beads, etc.

## Language

Montessori Language materials help the child learn to read, write and develop an awareness of the meaning of words. Students begin early in Montessori to identify the sounds of words.

## The Sciences - Geography

Children in the Pre-K class are taught about geography, and peace. The hallmark of Montessori Education is the use of Hands-On materials, which clearly define abstract topics such as multiplication, geometry, algebra, and language skills.

## Elementary Curriculum

The Montessori Academy of Early Enrichment has an elementary program which not only covers all the Florida State standards, but also includes Montessori curriculum. Our English language arts follows the Palm Beach County Literacy Roll-out.
